The Volvo XC60 ran over the bystanders during the demonstration of the car’s self-parking feature
Just when the self-driving cars were thought to bring in respite while commuting, the world is reminded of what happens when they mess up. Recently when the Volvo was demonstrating the Volvo XC60’s self-parking feature the demo went all wrong, leaving many onlookers surprised.
A Volvo salesperson recently attempted to demonstrate the XC60 City Safety system to a group of prospective car buyers. What the dealer didn't understand was that the safety system, which helps avoid or mitigate collisions, doesn't detect pedestrians.
The pedestrian detection system requires an additional $3,000 which is equivalent to Rs 1.9 lakh. This was realised only after the driver had rammed into the onlookers.
Although, it isn’t clear where this demonstration took place, the carmaker, however, did acknowledge that the mishap occurred at one of its dealerships, and stated that none of the victims suffered any serious injuries.
The company also made it clear that nothing had gone wrong with the car and that the unfortunate incident happened only occurred due to human error.
