Prospective customer drives away with Mercedes-Benz car in Mumbai

In what can be said as a scene straight out of a Bollywood masala flick a man sped away in a Mercedes-Benz luxury car after taking it for test drive. The accused Viraj Mhatre walked into the Mercedes-Benz showroom located in Navi Mumbai and showed interest in purchasing the CLA-Class luxury. As is the case with any prospective client, he demanded a test drive of the luxury car and a sales representative was asked to accompany him. The accused drove the car till Nerul where he claimed that he owns a hotel. After reaching the hotel, Mhatre told the sales representative to wait inside the hotel while he fetched his cheque book to make the payment. Instead, the accused sneaked outside the hotel and drove off with the Mercedes-Benz car.

After waiting for few minutes, the sales representative grew suspicious and by the time she came outside the hotel, Mhatre had disappeared with the car. The executive informed her manager and the dealership then lodged a complaint of theft in the local police station. According to the Mercedes-Benz dealership officials, the CLA-200 CDi luxury car that was stolen was valued at Rs 34.5 lakh. The incident happened on Friday and till now the culprit is on the large. Police officials said that they have been studying the CCTV footage at the various exit points of the city to nab the accused.
