Bajaj CNG Bike

Two different variants of the upcoming Bajaj CNG bike were spotted testing, and the rugged version were spotted recently. One of the bikes features a regular commuter design while the other bike seems to be a more rugged variant.

The CNG bike’s launch date is confirmed as June 18. It will be Bajaj’s first CNG bike, and will also be India’s first mass-produced CNG bike. The upcoming Bajaj CNG bike is likely to have much lower running costs than a petrol-powered bike. Here’s what the upcoming Bajaj CNG bike could be named. Or, could it be called this?

As far as performance is concerned, it could be equivalent to 110cc petrol-powered bikes. More than performance, the mileage of the CNG bike will be the main highlight. In fact, Rajiv Bajaj, the CEO of Bajaj Auto, mentioned that it will offer half the running costs (compared to a petrol-powered bike).

The Bajaj CNG bike was spotted earlier, giving us an idea of its design and features. It gets a long and flat single-piece seat that houses the CNG cylinder underneath. To access the CNG tank’s valve, there is a large panel gap on the fuel tank that will probably open up like a lid. Also, the bike will likely get a small petrol tank for emergencies. There’s a blue switch on the left switchgear, which could be used to switch fuel modes. 

Braking duties will be handled by a front disc and rear drum setup, and it gets a telescopic fork and a monoshock. The bike gets a raised handlebar, which is also braced and comes fitted with hand guards. The gearbox gets a heel-and-toe shifter, and the bike comes with mid-set footpegs. The handlebar and footpeg position should ensure a comfortable, upright riding posture. The CNG bike comes fitted with alloys and a stubby, upswept exhaust on the right-hand side. 

The CNG bike from Bajaj will be launched on June 18 and is expected to get a price tag of about Rs 80,000 (ex-showroom). Upon launch, it won’t have any direct rivals. Alternatives will be other 100-110cc fuel-efficient bikes such as the Hero Splendor Plus, TVS Radeon, Honda Shine 100, and Bajaj Platina 110. Additionally, Bajaj is also working on as many as 5-6 CNG bikes. This also includes a more premium bike with better features.
