Expected : Early 2012, Price 2-2.5 Lakh

New Maruti 800

Tata may have showed the World that it could build the cheapest car yet, but Maruti has been the one to put India on wheels with the 800 back in the 80s and is all set to revive the iconic car with a newer and more updated small car that will be powered by an 800 cc engine. The new car will be based on the Alto platform and will as a result offer more room inside the car.

The car’s design seems to be fresh, yet simple and interiors won’t really be super exciting. But coming from Maruti and targeted at a price bracket of under Rs 2 lakh for the base version, Maruti aims to take on the Tata Nano and the Hyundai Eon head on!

Good news! The 800 will never die. But the new 800 should have good interior and be fuel efficient (25 kmpl) to compete with Eon & Spark.

Good news. The 800 will never die. But interiors should match Eon & Spark to keep the competition on. Fuel efficiency is expected to be at least 25 kmpl. It should not be boring like the Alto. The Alto K10 should have a fresh and ultra modern dashboard and not similar to Alto 800.

It is nice to hear that most successful car in India is coming back in its new form. Hope the confidence earned by the earlier models would be continued in the same esteem

GRV, We can appreciate vision and mission for new Maruti's 800 CC car. We need to wait and watch (Drive) to see the complete performance. We should not compare 1983 market (Maruti-800 launched ) and current market trend. I did not think so this car will give pleasure for long drive. current generation giving more important for safety as well. not sure new Maruti will meet people expectation. but, hats off to the plan.

It indeed is a greatly loved car and still carry a cord in the heart of all plus 50 Yr generation of people for whom having it as the first car was a such a delight. It is a car filled with nostalgia which will never die out. If I were having my way and if by any chance Maruti gives any credence to these comments then I would strongly suggest that let them combine the two cars i.e. alto and this iconic model and bring out the 1000cc k10 version of the this iconic model

The company's announcement is a welcome and hope that it is not only upgraded but too has features comparable with the Eon since now-a-days the public not only something new but something better than ones in the market. Why don't they think for a diesel version to compete with Beat.
