The entry level sedan from Hyundai will get a new engine, cosmetic updates and a touchscreen infotainment system

Hyundai Xcent

Hyundai has been quite busy in the first quarter of 2017. Till now, the South Korean carmaker has launched the Grand i10 facelift, updated versions of the Elite i20 and the Creta, and a Sports edition of its entry-level hatchback - the Eon. Now though, it's the turn of their entry-level sedan, the Xcent. The sedan is expected to sport similar additions as its hatchback counterpart which includes cosmetic updates on the outside and feature updates inside. The most important one though will be the updated 1.2-litre diesel engine which we know from the Grand i10 is a joy to drive

On the outside, the Xcent facelift will get a new set of bumpers, a new Elantra-like grille, LED daytime running lamps and new taillamps. We know from the spy pictures that the new Xcent looks properly different from the outgoing one and Hyundai has added a touch of premiumness to the design.

Inside, the biggest change is the introduction of a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system which supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This system works smoothly and is very easy to connect too. The screen also doubles up as the rear camera display.

1.2-litre Diesel

But the biggest change here lies underneath the cosmetic and feature upgrades. The new 1.2-litre diesel engine replaces the 1.1-litre, 3-cylinder motor and is likely to develop 75PS of power and 190Nm of torque. That's a bump of 3PS and 10Nm. The petrol engine is likely to remain unchanged carrying forward the smooth 1.2-litre Kappa2 mill that develops 83PS of max power and 114Nm of peak torque. The diesel will be available with a 5-speed manual, whereas the petrol will get a 4-speed automatic option as well.

The Xcent facelift will continue to rival the likes of the Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo, Tata Zest and the Maruti Swift DZire, which is also due for an update later this month. The launch is hours away; stay tuned to Zigwheels for the prices and the first drive impressions of the 2017 Hyundai Xcent facelift.
