Polaris owned Indian Motorcycle expanded its portfolio as it unveiled the 2015 Indian Scout at the 2014 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The new bike according to Indian Motorcycle is the first truly new Indian Scout in more than 70 years. The original Indian Scout was manufactured from1919 to 1949 and was touted as one of the fastest and nimble offering from the stables of Indian Motorcycle and was popularised by racers at the “The Wall of Death” board-track races. Also, it was on a 1920 Indian Scout that the legendary Burt Munro set many a speed records that was brilliantly portrayed in the movie “World’s Fastest Indian”.
In terms of styling, the 2015 Indian Scout’s design is a modern take on the classic motorcycle highlighted by visual details like beefy tyres, stubby fenders, compact round headlamp and leather saddle. The designers have maintained the “rigid triangle” design that endowed the original Scout with a low center of gravity and better handling dynamics. Powering the 2015 Indian Scout is an all-new 1,133cc, liquid-cooled, V-twin mill churning out around 100PS of power and 98Nm of peak torque at 5.900rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear-wheel by a six-speed transmission. Also Read: Indian Chief Classic Review
The 2015 Indian Scout runs on 16-inch cast wheels, while braking is done by disc brakes at front and rear whereas ABS has been given a miss. The bike employs cast aluminium frame that apart from adding rigidity is also helpful in reducing weight. The Scout tips the scale at 244kg which makes it the lightest offering under the current Indian Motorcycle portfolio and has a fuel tank capacity of 12.5-litre.The 2015 Indian Scout will be offered as a solo motorcycle as standard but riders have the option of opting for a passenger seat. Other notable options include saddlebags, windscreen, redesigned exhaust etc. The 2015 Indian Scout will be offered in the following shades of Thunder Black, Indian Motorcycle Red, Silver Smoke (matte finish) and Thunder Black Smoke (matte finish). The Indian Scout has been priced at Rs 6.75 lakh in the US market with deliveries commencing by end of 2014. We can expect the new Indian Scout to be launched in our country next year and expect it to be priced at a premium similar to its other offerings as it will make its way to our shores via the CBU route.
