Toyota has launched the Rumion, essentially the rebadged Ertiga, in South Africa. It is available in three broad trims (S, SX, and TX) and powered by the same 1.5-litre petrol engine, paired with manual and automatic transmissions.

Take a look at the variant-wise prices:

Typical of a Maruti rebadged as a Toyota, design changes are barely limited to a new chrome-slatted grille and ‘Toyota’ badges around the vehicle. The rest of the styling is the same as the Ertiga. This is a bummer, considering the Urban Cruiser gets a redesigned fascia to stand apart from the Vitara Brezza

Inside, the Rumion’s dashboard design and layout are exactly the same as the Ertiga. However, the former comes with an all-black theme in contrast to the Ertiga’s beige cabin. Even the feature list is the same.

Passenger safety is taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and parking camera.

Under the hood, the Rumion gets the same 105PS 1.5-litre petrol engine as the Ertiga, paired with a 5-speed manual and an optional 4-speed torque converter automatic.

The Rumion could make its way to India under the Toyota-Suzuki JV, which is meant for rebadging and co-development. When it launches, expect it to be priced in the ballpark of the Ertiga, which sits below the Mahindra Marazzo.
