CompassAdventure with the Jeep Compass

My recent purchase of the Jeep Compass led to an adventurous trip from Bangalore to Coorg. The 2.0 liter Multijet II diesel engine, with 170 horsepower, provided a reliable drive through the winding Western Ghats roads. The 9 speed automatic transmission made climbing hills a easy task while the 8.4 inch Uconnect touch screen was user friendly. The leather and spacious interior added comfort to our journey.

A Mix of Rugged Charm and Urban Sophistication

After owning the Jeep Compass for over a year, I have come to appreciate its blend of off road prowess and city style comfort. It is a vehicle that screams adventure, yet does not shy away from the urban landscape. The 2.0 liter Multijet diesel engine is a powerhouse, offering 170 horsepower, easily handling both highways and rugged paths with a smooth 9 speed automatic transmission. The fuel efficiency, however is where I felt the pinch averaging about 14-16 kmpl, which is little bit less than ideal for daily commutes in India.

Off roading is great

It is smooth with the absorbent ride quality and gives aveage mileage but the slow city speed is not good and the suspension is on the stiff side. The off roading is very great in this car and in the highway it performs very very well and in the corners it feels very stable. In the hill areas it is fun to drive but Jeep Compass is a very expensive car. It provides solid build quality, with great driving experience and long feature list and is a very tough car for the off roading.

Striking design

4.3

Compass has a very simple yet striking design. The minimalistic design means it will age very well.Compass is a very practical vehicle with a very good passenger comfort and good boot space. The ride and handling of the car is very good. The suspension set up is just right. The bonnet is long and the driver sits a bit lower. Thus it takes some time to get used to the car.Clutch is on a heavier side. But if you are looking to get the best out of this beautiful 2.0 fiat engine, You need to go for manual. The engine is very powerful and the power is available at all times. The sixth gear gets the best out of this engine and at cruising speeds, The engine purrs along very smoothly. The suspension and aerodynamics of the car make it a very comfortable cruiser and miles pass without any effort. The steering is slightly on a heavier side but that allows for a very good feedback. The infotainment system is decent, Though one expects a better system for a car at this price range. But the music system more than compensates for small glitches on the touch screen infotainment system.Another thing to note is that the approach angles are not very good. Thus one needs to be careful about the front getting scratched or banged at potholes, Steep climbs and descents and steep speed-breakers.The heavy clutch can be a bit tiring in traffic situations. But overall, A very well packaged car and a great suv for driving enthusiasts.

Bold and Capable SUV

The Jeep Compass is renowned for its rugged and distinctive appearance, coupled with impressive off-road capabilities. Inside, it boasts top-notch quality, featuring practical switchgear, elegant piano black and chrome finishes, and excellent steering. The Compass is equipped with a brand-new infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and a panoramic sunroof. While its handling is impressive, offering sharp dynamics, powerful brakes, and stable performance at high speeds, its pricing may be considered steep. Overall, the Jeep Compass stands as a solid and capable SUV with a touch of luxury.
