Fiat will launch the Avventura, its crossover version of the Punto Evo hatchback, tomorrow. The Fiat Avventura is Fiat’s take on this growing segment of cross-hatchbacks and will take on the Volkswagen Cross Polo and Toyota Etios Cross in the segment. Unlike its competitors though, the Avventura is more thoroughly worked out to differentiate it from its hatchback donor.
First up, the Avventura’s styling that looks beefier with chunky plastic body cladding all around stands out. The Avventura also gets large tailgate mounted spare wheel with a well designed wheel cover, a trapezoidal tail pipe and crucially, giving the car its SUV-ish stance, a 205mm ground clearance. Large 16 inch alloy wheels further accentuate the high set stance. To balance out the added bits on the exterior with a competitive pricing of the car, the Avventura loses out a bit on the features front. So you don’t get climate control, rear AC vents and steering mounted controls in any variant except the top spec diesel.
Talking of variants, the Avventura gets two variants in the petrol – Active and Dynamic, and three in the diesel, a top of the line Emotion variant. The petrol variants don’t get ABS with EBD or airbags, while the top end diesel comes fully kitted. Surprisingly, all variants get 16 inch alloy wheels.
The Fiat Avventura comes with two engine options, 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder, petrol and the 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, Multijet diesel engine. Both engines offer the same levels of power at 90PS. The petrol returns 14.4kmpl and the diesel is rated at 20.5kmpl under standard test conditions. The petrol Avventura will not qualify for the lower excise duties due to the higher engine capacity (more than 1.2 litres), but the diesel will since the cap is 1.5 litres for a diesel car. So expect competitive pricing for the diesel. We expect the Avventura to be priced between Rs 6.5-8 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. As purpose built as the Avventura is, it feels more closely compared to the Ford EcoSport than Etios and Polo Cross hatchbacks.
