PierPaolo Rigo, the founder of Italian electric motorcycle maker Tacita, has revealed to ZigWheels that his company is "very interested" in the Asia Pacific region and is, in fact, looking for a local partner to co-produce and distribute their products

Tacita T-Race Rallly

Tacita is a Turin-based electric motorcycle manufacturer specializing in electric dirt-bikes, and is probably the first electric motorcycle company to have tested an electric dirt-bike in a real life cross-country rally in 2012 at Merzouga, Morocco.

There’s been considerable interest in the Tacita T-Race bikes in the form of contacts and requests from several countries outside Europe. Now the company says it’s keen to collaborate with a local partner in the Asia-Pacific region, to co-produce and sell their products.

“Tacita produces very high quality electric motorcycles made in Italy and aims at becoming a protagonist in the market. We have the know-how to develop models for a wider distribution, for which we would like to find some partner in co-producing and distributing these models in those markets that are interested in high quality, technological and design products but are sensitive to the price. We are very interested in the Asia Pacific region and we would like to find some local partner in that region to face together this challenge,” PierPaolo Rigo, founder of Tacita motorcycles, told ZigWheels.

Tacita T-Race Enduro

Named after the Roman goddess of silence, Tacita has been in operation since 2009 and has recently unveiled its latest project, the T-Race Diabolika, the fifth motorcycle in the T-Race series, including T-Race Motard, T-Race Cross, T-Race Enduro and T-Race Rally. The T-Race series are well-built bikes and although we haven’t ridded one, on paper the specifications look quite alluring for adventure riding and off-road enduro riding.

All Tacita motorcycles are equipped with electric asynchronous three-phase induction engines with two different engine mappings – eco and sport. Power is generated by Li-Po lithium polymer batteries with two different ranges (5.3kWh or 10.6 kWh). The engines are equipped with 5-speed gearboxes with hydraulic clutch and rev up to 8000rpm and make peak power of about 36PS and maximum torque of 60Nm. There’s liquid cooling as well, for the motors and controller.

The Li-Po batteries can be recharged anytime and anywhere with the supplied charger. Optional solar charging stations called the T-Station, which also doubles up as a bike trailer, are also available. For the T-Race Diabolika, city range is estimated to be 200km with the 10.6kWh battery and highway range to be about 150km.

Currently, the Tacita T-Race bikes are produced upon requests and according to specific requirements of customers. So, that means pricing of these bikes will also be according to specific customized requirements. We sure hope to see some of these electric motorcycles in our part of the world, and hope Tacita gets a partner here in South Asia to co-produce bikes and pass on the cost advantages to prospective customers.
