Likely to be powered by an 814 cc engine with a mileage promise of over 20 km per litre, Hyundai's EON is expected to range in the price bracket from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3.8 lakh and with Hyundai throwing style, substance, space, performance and fuel efficiency, EON is all set to take on the Alto league.



"Oh! It looks good! Hyundai EON is going to be like a wake up call for Maruti. The product looks so fantastic and I am ready to book the car. Hats off, to the Hyundai creative team," said Parveen Mehta, an enthusiast from Bangalore.



Taking a note further, Rushabh Mendirattha of Delhi said, "Hyundai is entering at the right time. The point now is to see if they can keep up to the expectations. If they can come up with a LPG edition, it will undoubtedly boost as well give good competition to the market."



But for starters let's figure out the differential points in both the cars. From the looks of it, Hyundai EON definitely looks bigger and better than Maruti Suzuki Alto. Coming on the specifications and features front, thanks to the new advancements in the technology, EON definitely should be a better packaged and equipped car than the Alto. Moving on, the styling of Alto has not done any wonders since its launch in 2000, making the car look outdated and out-of-place too. However what could give a high score to Maruti is the age-old trust of its customers, its after-sales service and the availability of a CNG variant. 



"Hyundai is all set to rule the roost with the EON. Initial impressions of the car show the futuristic design and the fluidic transforms in the EON, with which Hyundai is all set to create a benchmark in its class," said Niranjan Srivasthava of Mumbai.

So, do you think an engine with maximum power of around 56 horsepower at 5500 rpm and maximum torque of 76.5 Nm is worth the effort? "I am really not impressed with the engine. Though, the rest of the car looks really impressive and fresh. This is what Tata should have done instead of their not-so-worthy Nano," said Bhagwan Sachdeva of Mumbai.



Based on the Santro platform, it is likely to use a lot of components from both the Santro and i10. But in this whole conversation we could come across only one customer who was really let down with the styling and hype created around the Hyundai EON. "There is nothing great about the car. It will be another Alto or Spark, with the same price range only with the additional smarter looks. The styling too looks alike Hyundai i20," said Nilesh Jain of Delhi.



The bookings of the car are open and the car has launched today on 13 October 2011. Will Hyundai for a change be able to step on the pace?
