We have been closing in on the future for a while now. We already have pocket computers, friendly robots, smart watches that was once thought as a distant dream. All that was missing was the flying car. But now, AeroMobil seems to have covered that as well.
The Czech-based vehicle maker states that its two-seater flying car which can take flight from any clear road could go on sale as early as 2017, potentially changing personal transport on a global scale.
This flying car is capable of transforming from a car to a plane simply by unfolding wings that fit alongside the vehicle’s cockpit and starting a propeller that is in the car’s rear. The Czech-built vehicle can hit over 160kmph on the ground and it flies at 200kmph on twin propellers. This vehicle can fit into a regular parking space, and can be refuelled at any petrol pump.
The car is equipped with an autopilot - and a parachute for emergencies - and its makers hope it will herald a new age of ‘door to door’ transportation. The working model was designed and built in just 10 months.
Aeromobil has also toughened the suspension, so that the car can take off from relatively rough terrain, including paved streets or parkland. The company admits that there are still some hurdles regarding where the plane is allowed to fly and take off.
The company is yet to confirm a price tag for the vehicle.
