Third round of the Volkswagen Polo R Cup over the weekend at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) in Greater Noida turned out to be a mixed bag for Lee Keshav. The third round is spread over three races, the first two on a Saturday and the third on the next day. In Saturday’s outing, Lee Keshav clinched victories in both races improving his standing in the championship that will see its final round also to be held at the BIC.
In Race one, Lee Keshav held his pole spot through the race to a fairly tight finish. Guest driver Gosia Rdest and Karthik Tharani finished the race in second and third spot respectively. Consistently quick laps by Lee Keshav ensured enough distance between himself and the rest of the pack. 17 year old Dylan Pereira from Luxembourg finished fourth in the first race while championship leader Bonnie Thomas could only manage ninth spot in the first race.
Race Two, Lee Keshav moved up to overtake Angad Singh Matharoo on the sixth lap to get into the lead and then held his place all the way to the finish. The race started with Angad and Dylan fighting for the race lead. Dylan was disqualified and soon Angad was chased by Keshav. Out of the front shuffle, Karminder Pal Singh kept his cool and maintained pace to clinch a comfortable third spot on the podium.
Commenting on the wins, Lee Keshav said, “It is the best day of my life. I got pole position to begin with and registered my first win of the season. Race 2 was the icing on the cake with one more victory for the day. This puts me in a very strong position in the championship. I hope I can make the best of the third race of this weekend tomorrow.” But that was not to be.
Lee Keshav and Angad couldn’t finish Race Three, a race which saw plenty of contact and damage, even bringing out the Safety car on the track for a short while. Dylan was led by Karthik till the young Dylan snatched the position on the seventh lap and held his lead to clinch the final race of the weekend.
