There are those of us who are smitten by the sound and feel of a superbike. The thumping sound of the superbike may be a melody to your ears. But, the Bengaluru cops have a different take on this from now on.

The traffic police in the city are cracking down on super bikes for causing noise pollution. Bengaluru traffic police is fining those riding superbikes such as Harley, Kawasaki, Triumph and Ducati which produce noise above 80 decibels. Joint Commissioner of Transport (Enforcement) Narendra Holkar has directed traffic officers to stop and fine bikes which have that peculiar loud sound.

Bike owners will be fined in the first instance, and the second time they are caught, their two-wheelers will be seized.

A similar drive was conducted by the traffic authorities in Pune after receiving several complaints from citizens who claimed that bikers intentionally modified the silencers to get that loud peculiar sound, popularly known as 'Indori Pataka'.

The bikers were charged with a fine of up to Rs 1,000 under section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicle Act which pertains to improper modifications to vehicles, and in this case changes to the silencer of the superbike. The traffic cops also hunted down garage owners who modified the silencers of these superbikes.
