Ford is introducing a new life-saving technology by befitting its car with a new Front Split View Camera that enables a 180-degree view to the driver

A car that can see around corners to avoid accidents

Exiting a blind junction can be a task. Even if the driver cranes his neck it would be a difficult task to detect  a vehicle or a biker approaching the car. In a bid to avoid collision of the car with other vehicles, Ford is coming up with a new technology that will enable its cars to ‘see around the corners’.

The carmaker has come up with a Front Split View Camera which offers a 180-degree view from the front of the car to help a motorist drive safely through blind junction and driveway. This camera is mounted on the grille of the car and is just over an inch wide. It is activated by just a push of a button on the dashboard and helps the motorist to see the approaching cars, pedestrians and cyclists via an eight-inch colour touchscreen.

This camera also makes use of a telescopic jet washer to keep the tiny lens clear and to help ensure clear visibility at sunrise or sunset when dirt might distort the image.

According to Ford, the new camera system can make the driver stress free during situations where the visibility is reduced. The company states that it has tested this technology on all kinds of roads, congested urban streets and areas with a lot of cyclists and pedestrians. Ford further states that this technology could work well even when the sunlight was shining directly into the camera.

This new innovative Front Split View Camera is available as an option on the all-new Ford Galaxy and the S-MAX.
