Volvos have for long been too plain-jane for our liking but we’ve seen a glimpse of the style getting back to the brand with cars like the S60 and XC60 in India. The XC90 was still old-school Volvo, but not for long.
Under leadership of new design chief, Thomas Ingenlath, Volvo has revealed images of its second of three concept studies showcasing the brand’s new design language, the Concept XC Coupe. In September, the Scandinavian carmaker revealed the Concept Coupe to much fanfare and with the Concept XC Coupe, they expect to build on that.
Volvo says that the proportions and versatility of Volvo Cars' new Scalable Product Architecture will underpin all medium and large cars in the company’s future. The XC Concept Coupe looks all set to transition into the next generation XC90 SUV. The upright grille, split headlights and strong haunches in the sketches look attractive and the ‘climbing’ rear lights are trademark Volvo styling cues. The vertical exhausts further accentuate the upright stance.
The company will reveal the car in full on January 8, prior to the 2014 Detroit Motor Show.
