Production of the upcoming faired version of the Suzuki Gixxer has started prior to its official India launch in April

Fully-faired version of the Suzuki Gixxer

Suzuki India has commenced production of the upcoming fully-faired version of the Suzuki Gixxer at its manufacturing facility in Gurgaon. The new fully-faired Suzuki Gixxer is reported to be launched in India by first week of April. The new offering is not an entirely new bike but will be just a faired version of the Suzuki Gixxer which has been much-admired by auto journos and also won the 2014 ZigWheels Bike of the Year award (story link). From the images it is clear that Suzuki designers haven’t tinkered much with the basic design of the bike except from adding a fairing. Other additions include clear lens indicators, restyled muffler tips and inclusion of rim tape. The new fairing does gel well with the overall design of the bike. It definitely makes the bike look sporty, but clip-on handlebars have been given a miss as we can see from the spy shots. The fully-faired Suzuki will also be available in a special MotoGP livery edition similar to its premier class machine on the similar lines of the Repsol edition as seen on the Honda CBR 150R and 250R.

No changes are expected on the mechanical front as the new offering will be powered by the same motor as seen on the Suzuki Gixxer. The 155cc, air-cooled mill churns out 14.8PS of peak power output and 14Nm of maximum torque. The powerplant is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks at front and a monoshock setup at the back. Braking is done via disc brakes at front and drum bakes at rear. The fully-faired version of the Suzuki Gixxer will rival the Yamaha Fazer and the upcoming Bajaj Pulsar 150AS in our two-wheeler market. The new bike is expected to be priced around Rs 80,000.
