Italian design firm, Pininfarina, which was acquired by Mahindra last year, is reportedly planning to produce an electric sports car. The firm certainly has the backing of the Indian giant’s Formula E team, which has been racing with their electric car for quite some time now.
The design house also showcased a hydrogen-powered sports car concept at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. The concept sports car looks very striking with a low scooped body; however, the major design highlight lies in the arrow-type rear wing. But then again, the actual car could differ drastically as it's just a concept.
Mahindra plans to combine its race car tech with the awe-inspiring designs that Pininfarina has been producing since ages. Speaking on the subject, Mahindra automotive head, Pravin Shah said: “Design plays a critical part in designing vehicles in such a way that they are robust yet pollute the least while giving you the thrill that people want in vehicles.” He further explained how the similarities between the aesthetics of a race car and a sports car will help them in the realm of Formula E with assistance from Pininfarina.
Shah further acknowledged that the addition of the world-renowned design house to Mahindra’s crown would help them stand out in the automotive world. Along with this, he also mentioned the importance of its existing Tech Mahindra information technology arm.
Quite notably, this is not the first time that Mahindra have been found mulling over an electric sports car, as it has showcased its concept EV sports car Halo in the 2014 Indian Auto Expo.
