Peru to host Dakar Rally

Peru will be one of the countries hosting the 2012 Dakar Rally in January next year

With the event being organised in South America and passing through Peru, it will become the 27th country to host the event. Before the official approval and announcement of the delegation, several trips were made by investigation teams as well as the Dakar World Tour representatives to recce the location.



After the conclusion of the Argentine and Chilean leg, drivers and teams will make their first Peruvian stop at Arequipa followed by Nazca and Pisco before the chequered flag is waved at Peru’s Capital city Lima on the Plaza de las Armas (Main Square), on 15th January, 2012.

The 2012 Dakar Rally will commence from Mar del Plata, in Argentina and will conclude in Lima, Peru. The event will start from the 1st of January with a briefing, starting ceremony and the first special stage. Covering a distance of 9000kms over three countries including a rest day in Chile, the 2012 Dakar rally drivers will have to navigate between oceans, mountains and deserts.



Bracing the occasion, the President of the Peruvian sports institute, Arturo Woodman Politt said, ““the most wonderful day of his life, with the honour of officially welcoming the world's greatest rally to his country”.
