Absent from the 2016 Auto Expo, Skoda Auto will be launching the 2016 Superb sedan on February 23rd, 2016

2016 Skoda Superb

Despite missing in action from the just-concluded 2016 Auto Expo, Skoda Auto has been generating considerable buzz for the upcoming Superb sedan. The Skoda Superb is now going to be launched in the country on 23rd February, 2015. Already launched in European and American markets last year, the 2016 Superb will hope to continue the success of the existing model with its creamy smooth powertrain options, spacious and luxurious interior, and class-leading legroom.

Riding on Volkswagen’s new MQB platform that also underpins the VW Passat and the Audi A4, the 2016 Superb doesn’t just look more appealing than the outgoing version, but is also more spacious and feature-laden. Sharp creases abound on the exterior, giving it a sportier and more aggressive profile all around. There’s a hint of the Vision C Concept around some of the lines, which isn’t surprising as the 2016 Superb has also been penned by Skoda design supremo Josef Kaban. Compared to its predecessor, the new Superb is 28 mm longer and 47 mm wider, while its wheelbase has been increased by 80 mm and the front overhang is 61 mm shorter than before. It is also 75 kilos lighter.

Skoda has also managed to cram in even more features into the 2016 Superb, which is frankly a minor miracle considering that its predecessor was already packed to the brim with equipment that would give even higher-segment cars a jolt. Three-zone air conditioning, sliding and tilting panoramic electric roof, a new infotainment systems based on Volkswagen Group’s MIB technology, heated seats, automatic windscreen wipers and headlamps, and leather everywhere cosset the occupants in supreme comfort inside the 2016 Superb.

In international markets, the 2016 Skoda Superb is sold with options of direct-injection turbocharged engines which include five TSI petrol units and three TDI common-rail diesel units. Of these, we reckon, India is likely to get the 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre TSI petrol engines, along with the 2.0-litre TDI engine. Both engines are paired to DSG double clutch transmissions.

Expect the 2016 Skoda Superb to be priced between Rs 22-30 lakh when it is launched in India.
