Motorcycle sales figure for December 2013

We take a look at the monthly sales figure of major two-wheeler manufacturers in the country and see how they fared in December 2013

Two-wheeler manufacturers in the country have released their respective sales figure of December 2013. And it is glad tidings for most of the major two-wheeler manufacturers in the country as they were able to maintain the momentum of the festive season and clocked decent sales figure. Barring Bajaj and Hero MotoCorp everyone else posted positive improvements. We take a look at their respective sales figure.

The Gainers:

Honda Dream Neo

Honda:

It was yet another fruitful month for Honda as they registered sales of 2,96,144units for December 2013 as compared to  2,17,498units it managed in the corresponding month in 2012. Scooter sales grew by an impressive 54 per cent, while motorcycle growth was at 18 per cent and the overall growth in sales stood at a notable 36 per cent. Honda’s latest commuter offering, Dream Neo breached the 1 lakh sales figure in just seven months from its launch. To further boost sales HMSI has entered a joint venture with a firm to commence exports to Bangladesh.

Yamaha FZ-S

Yamaha:

December was another successful month in terms of sale for Yamaha as it managed to sell 64,997 units in the in comparison to the 47,483 units it managed in December 2012 thereby registering an overall growth of 37 per cent. In the export markets, it sold 25,220 units in December 2013, compared to 22,360 units sold in the same month last year, attaining a growth of 13 per cent. The Company strengthened its position by clocking sales of 651,487 units in 2013, compared to 486,810 units in 2012, registering a growth of 34% over the last year. This tremendous growth in sales can be credited to its decision to enter the scooter market with the Ray.

TVS Jupiter

TVS:

December proved to be another happy outing for TVS, as the company registered a growth of 2 per cent by registering sales of 1,59,495 units against 1,56,221 units in the corresponding month last year. One of the vital reasons for the healthy numbers is its newly launched scooter Jupiter as the Hosur based two-wheeler manufacturer clocked 41,817 units of scooters and a 38 per cent sales growth. Its total exports grew by 27 per cent with sales increasing from 20,251 units in December 2012 to 25,797 units in December 2013.

Suzuki Motorcycle:

Japanese two-wheeler maker Suzuki Motorcycle had a great December with respect to sales as grew over 10 per cent month-on-month in 2013 on account of enhanced production capacity and deeper market penetration. The company has also hiked up its production by 25 per cent to 5.6 lakh units from 4.5 lakh units last year. It also plans to increase its dealer network to improve to 600 and said that it added 200 touch points in 2013.

Mahindra Centuro

Mahindra 2wheelers:

The biggest gainer in terms of percentage of improvement was the re-emerging Mahindra 2wheelers who registered a growth rate of an astonishing 267 per cent. Sales figure for December 2013 stood at 19,054 compared to 7,136 in the corresponding month in 2012. This slurge in sales can be credited to its commuter offering Centuro which has been warmly received by the consumers. Riding on the success of its newly launched Centuro motorcycle, Mahindra 2wheelers posted 267 per cent increase in its December sales. 

The Losers:

1Hero Passion XPro

Hero MotoCorp:

Hero MotoCorp didn’t have a successful outing in December as sales figure dropped by three per cent. They managed to sell 5,24,990 units compared to sold 5,41,615 units it managed to sell in the corresponding month in 2012. But all is not bad for Hero as they were able to set a record for the highest two-wheeler sold in a calendar year with 61,83,784 units for the period January-December 2013.

Bajaj Discover 100M

Bajaj Auto:

Santa Claus didn’t seem to hear Bajaj Auto’s plea as the company reported a 12.63 per cent decline in motorcycle sales for December 2013. The Chakan based two-wheeler manufacturer sold 2,60,645 units in comparison to the 2,98,350 units in the corresponding month previous year. But it managed to compensate this slide in sales with its performance in the export operations. Bajaj’s export stood at 1,50,753 units compared to 1,26,016 units in December 2012, which is a 19.63 per cent growth.
