The launch of the new XUV500 has caused a major stir in India, and the festivities continue for the Mahindra and Mahindra group as demand for the just arrived SUV model show no signs of slowing down, so much so that the company has now been forced to freeze further bookings of the car with immediate effect.

After registering 5,000 bookings within a week of its launch, that same count has now gone up by another 3,000 taking the total registered bookings for the car to a whopping 8,000 units. In recent times, only the Toyota Etios sedan has received an equal number of bookings within 11 days of its all India debut.

Having sold out sufficient units of the new SUV to keep its production cycles running for the next four months, Mahindra decided to stop taking fresh bookings for the vehicle on October 11th 2011, and will now focus entirely on expediting deliveries of all of its existing bookings.

With demand from all major Indian cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Pune etc (where the vehicle has been launched) having already superseded expectations, the launch of the XUV500 in smaller tier II and tier III cities is sure to see a sizeable delay.
