2016 marks the 100th birthday of Lamborghini founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini. The Raging Bull brand is known to commemorate milestones with unique cars such as Countach 25th anniversary, Aventador 50th anniversary as well as the concept Egoista. Staying true to their tradition, Lamborghini has honoured Ferruccio’s 100th birth year by releasing the Centenario. Now, this ultra-exclusive supercar has been unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
The Centenario is draped completely in carbon fibre which help keep its weight restricted to just 1,520 kgs. The design is characteristic Lambo; the shape gives the appearance of slicing through the air, and the massive diffuser is definitely attention grabbing at the rear. From the top, there is a small, roof-mounted vent into the engine compartment. Three exhausts poke out the rear, including a slightly smaller one in the centre. In traditional Lamborghini fashion, visibility out the back seems practically nonexistent.
The interiors have received few updates with a large 10.1-inch touchscreen display mounted in the tablet form dominates the centre console. The infotainment system is equipped with Apple CarPlay and internet browsing. On track days, the Centenario is equipped with a built-in telemetry software and two cameras to record all the data. Lamborghini has also made provision for storage of two helmets in the front trunk.
Motive power on the Centenario comes from a tweaked version of the 700PS 6.5-litre V12 engine used in the Aventador, now reportedly putting out around 780PS. Performance specs should be breathtaking with a 0-100kmph time of just 2.8 seconds. Top speed is said to be in excess of 350kmph. Lamborghini reportedly plans to build 20 Centenario coupés and 20 convertibles for $2.4 million each which apparently are already sold out.
