Hyundai is all set to launch its new compact sedan, the Xcent, for under Rs 5 lakh

Hyundai India will launch its new sub-4 metre sedan, the Xcent in Delhi on the 12th of March. The Xcent which will compete against the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and the Honda Amaze is likely to undercut the Dzire’s pricing. The Hyundai Xcent will come with two engine options – one petrol and one diesel – and two gearbox options. The diesel will only come with a 5-speed manual while the petrol engine will come with both a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic. Also Read: Hyundai Xcent unveiled

The petrol engine is the 1.2-litre, four cylinder Kappa 2 engine that develops 83PS of max power and 113Nm of peak torque. The diesel meanwhile in the new U2, three-cylinder engine that made its debut on the Grand i10 hatchback. It displaces 1.1-litre and has a power rating of 71PS and a torque of 159Nm and an ARAI fuel efficiency figure of 24kmpl. We expect the compact sedan to have similar fuel effcieincy rating even though it will be close to 100kg heavier than the hatchback. Also Read: Hyunda Xcent competition check

The Hyundai Xcent which was unveiled at the recently concluded Auto Expo is based on the same platform as the Grand i10. It shares the same wheelbase, and the same front and rear track lengths as the hatchback. Interiors are identical too with the Xcent sedan getting a digital climate control system instead of a regular air conditioning unit on the Grand i10. Space wise we don’t expect any difference between the hatchback and the sedan but given that the Grand i10 is already a spacious car, it should not affect the Xcent clientele much. The Xcent will have more comfortable rear seats though with higher recline angle for the rear seat back. The prices for the new Hyundai Xcent are expected to start at Rs  4.8 lakh for the base petrol and Rs 5.8 lakh for the base diesel.
