The country’s second biggest passenger car maker has managed to stay out of the negative in May 2013 with sales having registered a cumulative growth of 2.1 per cent over the corresponding period in 2012. Hyundai sold 56,856 units in May 2013 as compared to 55,669 units during the corresponding period in 2012.
While the Korean car maker managed to hike exports by 4.6 per cent by exporting 24,754 units in May 2013 as compared to 23,659 in May 2012, domestic sales rose by a meagre 0.3 per cent with sales rising by 92 units after selling 32,102 units in May 2013 as compared to sales in May 2012.
Commenting on the company’s May 2013 sales, Rakesh Srivastava, Sr. Vice President, Sales and Marketing, HMIL, said, “Hyundai has been able to maintain positive growth and will gain in market share in a market that is at the near bottom level and is expected to move into positive growth in the coming months as the demand for the petrol cars is improving.”
“In these challenging times, we are continuously increasing market share by improving operational efficiencies and aggressive marketing campaigns. Our products Elantra and Verna continue to be the market leaders while our compact cars have grown in their respective segments. The export volumes have increased and we continue to improve on our leadership position on account of strong demand from the non European markets.”
Hyundai currently sells eight vehicles in India with prices ranging from Rs 2.80 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the entry level variant of the Eon A segment hatchback to Rs 26.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the top-of-the-line variant of the Santa Fe SUV.
