Guy Martin has to be among the most popular faces on the line-up of the fabled Isle of Man TT. So this bit of news would certainly a downer for many TT fans. Guy Martin has announced that he would quit the sport post the 2015 Isle of Man TT. According to Martin he has taken the decision as he wants to lead a simple life as was the case when he was a truck mechanic who used to race for passion. Rumours of him planning to quit the sport had started doing the rounds in 2014 itself but it was reported that the Tyco TAS Racing Team was able to persuade him to race for one more year. Martin persisted with his efforts as Tyco TAS Racing Team switched from the Suzuki machine to the BMW S1000RR on which Michael Dunlop was able to win the 2013 Isle of Man TT. This announcement makes the 2015 Isle of Man TT race an ever more special one as it will be the last occasion for Guy Martin to register a win at the legendary Mountain Course. Despite scoring many a podium finishes at the Isle of Man, the English rider is yet to score even a single win in his past three attempts despite few close second position finishes (seven to be precise).
Speaking about his decision to an English newspaper daily, Guy Martin said, “I need to have a rest and re-set. My job is a truck mechanic and I’ve taken my eye off the ball. The TV stuff has knackered my racing too. Not in results – last year’s TT was one of my best – but I didn’t get five minutes. I used to go racing for fun. Now it’s hard work.
