Ford's new Escort sedan was spotted during its cold weather testing in Northen Sweden, and is expected to be sold in Europe

Ford’s Escort sedan was previewed in a concept form at the Shanghai Motor Show last year. This budget sedan has been caught undergoing testing in Europe. The carmaker has announced the Ford Escort for the Chinese market so far, but its presence in Northen Sweden points towards Ford readying the new car for international sales, including in Europe.

Although the new Ford Escort is well covered under a combination of foil wraps and black cladding, one can still make out that the new car flaunts a hexagonal front grille. The silhouette of the new car and especially the roof-lines and the window-lines look identical to the concept that was previewed at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show.

Reports suggest that the new Ford Escort could use engines from the Ford Fiesta, such as the 1.5-litre four-cylinder Ti-VCT engine and the 1.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine. The car will be offered in China with either a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre or 2.0-litre engine and a 5-speed manual or a matched 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox some time in 2015.

Reports suggest that Ford is likely to pull the wraps off their production Escort sedan at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show this April.
