Ford has hit a new production milestone with the roll-out of its 50th lakh EcoBoost engine from its assembly line in Wayne, Michigan. The American carmaker achieved this success in a span of less than three years after it first celebrated the production of its 5,00,000th EcoBoost-equipped vehicle.
The EcoSport engine was first launched in the Taurus SHO in 2009. The EcoBoost family includes 1.5-litre, 1.6-litre, 2.0-litre and 2.3-litre four-cylinder engines, along with the powerful 2.7-litre and 3.5-litre V6 engines. The company now offers every vehicle that it sells in the international market with this engine. In India, however, only the Ford EcoSport comes equipped with a 1.0-litre engine.
In the Ford EcoSport, the engine manages to churn out 123PS and 170Nm of torque. Available only in the top-end Titanium variant the EcoSport is priced at Rs 9.70 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
Ford’s 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost has received several awards which includes the prestigious Engine Technology International award and the International Engine of the Year honour for three consecutive years. The American carmaker produces more than two lakh EcoBoost engines per month worldwide.
