Continental brings in its cornering ABS System and anti-lowside technology with the BMW S1000XR

Continental Optimised Curve Braking system

Bosch introduced its cornering ABS system last year, and now Continental joins the league with the launch of similar technology for motorcycles. Taking into consideration roll, pitch, lateral acceleration and lean angle, Continental Optimised Curve Braking system brakes in accordance, to slow the bike down when brakes are applied but at the same time keeps the motorcycle upright.

The BMW S1000XR will be the first production motorcycle to make use of this Continental Optimised Curve Braking system. We can expect the future BMW motorcycles to be introduced with this system too.

With the European Union set to make ABS mandatory for all motorcycles over 125cc starting January 1, 2016 for already existing models and January 1, 2017 for all-new models, all motorcycle manufacturers are already working on gradually making the shift. Since ABS is being made mandatory, motorcycle manufacturers are now going to have to work that much harder to distinguish their higher models from the relatively basic ones.

Introduction of the Optimised Curve Braking from Continental doesn't quite come as a surprise considering, that Bosch has already introduced the same in the KTM 1290 Super Adventure. While some manufacturers for the Bosch system and other for the Continental, it sure is glad tidings for the end user as all the CBU and CKD units that are sold in India will soon come with ABS too.
