Datsun will be launching its latest offering in the hatchback segment by the end of June

Datsun redi-GO

The redi-GO concept was initially showcased by Datsun at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The actual production version of the same was also revealed by the Japanese carmaker in April this year. Now, when the launch of the car is just around the corner, here are six things that you should know about the upcoming Datsun redi-GO-

1. Space

The redi-GO scores pretty well on cabin space. Just to get that extra bit of leg room at the rear, the back of the front seats has been scooped out by Datsun. While seating five people will be a bit of an issue, four people can sit comfortably.

2. Dimensions

The redi-GO relies on its tall dimensions to free up space on the inside – it is taller than the Kwid, and also shares the CMF-A platform with it. Being 3,429mm long and 1,560mm wide, the redi-Go is shorter and thinner than the Kwid. Even with such compact dimensions, the redi-GO has enough space to seat 4 medium-height adults comfortable. A ground clearance of 185mm also gives the redi-Go the ability to negotiate bad roads better.

3. Interior

Interior

The interior design is much better than the Go hatchback; though there are obvious signs of cost cutting around the cabin – it is not as jarring, thanks to its intelligent design. There is a lot of grey plastic around the cabin (like the Go and Go+), a splash of piano black inserts on the centre-console and the flowing design of the dashboard make the redi-GO’s interior look better. The redi-GO misses out on the touchscreen infotainment system as seen in the Kwid, but gets a proper single-DIN music player.

4. Engine

Engine

The redi-GO will be powered by a 0.8-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine (as seen in the Kwid). The three-cylinder motor is capable of producing 54PS of power along with 72Nm of torque. The fuel economy figure will also be similar to its French counterpart at 25.17kmpl. A five-speed manual gearbox will take care of the transmission duties. Renault will also be launching a 1.0-litre AMT variant of the Kwid which was showcased at the Indian Auto Expo in February. Initially, Datsun will not be launching the same for the redi-GO.

5. Price

Prices for the redi-GO have been confirmed by Datsun. It will be priced between Rs.2.5 to Rs 3.5 Lakh undercutting the Kwid’s price by a small margin. This will also make the redi-GO the cheapest offering by Datsun in our country.

6. Launch

Datsun dealerships across the country have already started accepting pre-bookings for the redi-GO – bookings start at Rs. 5000 (Refundable). Our team is currently hard at work testing Datsun’s latest offering in Kolkata. Stay tuned for a detailed first drive review of the redi-GO.
