2016 Auto Expo: Renault reveals the Kwid 1.0 Litre SCe and Kwid Easy-R

Riding on the wave of popularity that the Kwid is enjoying, Renault took the wraps off the Kwid 1.0 Litre SCe and Kwid Easy-R models at the 2016 Auto Expo. Powered by a new 1.0 litre engine whose 4 valves per cylinder DOHC layout has been tuned to ensure low pressure drop and efficient valve lift for higher air filling, the new models claims to have more usable power at all stages of the rev range.

The Kwid Easy-R is the automated manual transmission version of the 1.0 Litre SCe, boasting of a new 5-speed AMT gearbox that Renault claims has drawn upon the company’s Formula 1 racing expertise. The Innovative Shift Control Dial with three modes – Reverse, Neutral, and Drive, has been designed for ease of use while an intelligent control unit automatically optimizes gear shifting in accordance with the driving conditions. The Crawl function helps move the car forward and backwards slowly without any throttle input.

Renault also took to the 2016 Auto Expo to showcase two new concepts based on the Kwid: the Kwid Climber and the Kwid Racer. The first is a tall off-roader that, with its high ground clearance, wide track, and specially designed tyres looks purpose-built for the job, not to mention the flamboyant orange paint finish that accentuates its sculpted lines.

Then there’s the Kwid Racer, which, as its name indicates, has more to do with the world of racing. Sporting 18-inch alloy wheels, low profile tyres, bucket seats, and a roll cage, the Racer looks ready to take on anything that the world of motorsport can throw at it. Inside, the racing driver is assured of being cosseted from the elements thanks to exotic materials like Alacantra, aluminum, and carbon, while a four-point racing harness keeps him safely strapped in place.

But, as with all things that are too good to be true, the Kwid Climber and Kwid Racer are just show cars, at least for the foreseeable future.
