Taking the quest for alternative energy a step further, Mahindra-Reva is poised to reveal the first Indian electric car for the whole family at the 2016 Auto Expo

Mahindra-Reva e2o four door

Vehicles powered by alternative energy haven’t really taken off in a big way in India and to date, the Mahindra-Reva e2o remains the only fully electric car to be sold in the country. Being a small 2-door hatchback, it comes as no surprise that the e2o hasn’t done too well for itself in a country that places a premium on the number of people a vehicle can lug around. Then there’s the unavoidable fact that the e2o is more expensive than most hatchbacks in the country.

Taking all this into account, Mahindra-Reva will be showcasing a 4-door variant of the e2o at the 2016 Auto Expo. Spy images of the 4-door variant has already been doing the rounds of the internet for quite some time now, but we might get to see the prototype in the flesh for the first time at the expo.

From what we can glean from the blurry spy images, it appears that the 4-door e2o is slightly longer and maybe slightly wider than the 2-door version. If our hunch turns out to be true, the new car should definitely offer more interior space, perhaps enough to comfortably seat five adults.

However, the 4-door e2o will get the same interior as the current e2o, with a central infotainment screen, digital console, and other user friendly interfaces. The car will also continue to get the “App-Connect” feature which will keep a tab on the electric car’s charge status, range and other features.

In its current two-door guise, the Mahindra-Reva e2o comes powered by a Lithium-ion battery setup that makes 26PS of peak power and 54Nm of torque and is sent to an electric motor that drives the rear wheels via an automatic gearbox. We reckon the 4-door variant will get a little more power and a little more range than the 120-odd kilometers that the current e2o is capable of.
