Jehan Daruvala ended the sixth round of the 2022 Formula 2 championship with a fourth place finish at the feature race in Baku. The Prema driver’s teammate and fellow Red Bull junior driver, Dennis Hauger, took his maiden feature race victory.
Starting eighth on the grid, the Indian driver immediately made up a place on the opening lap and was shadowing the top runners throughout the first stint. But with DRS trains forming, it was difficult to make a pass stick, so the Indian driver attempted to make his mandatory pitstop early to jump the DRS train.
This tactic seemed to have worked as Daruvala gained yet another position after the pitstop phases. But as was the case with yesterday’s sprint race, there was chaos for the rest of the race which included safety cars, crashes and shock retirements. Within all this chaos, Daruvala managed to move up to fourth position at the chequered flag.
Yes, Daruvala has lost a bit of ground to championship-leader Felipe Drugovich, but the Indian driver remains third in the driver’s standings and has closed the gap to second-placed Theo Pourchaire.
Formula 2 will now have a couple of weeks off before the racing resumes at Silverstone, UK for the seventh round of the season.
