Samsung previews truck with a monitor setup at the rear

An estimated 12 lakh people across the world die of road accidents every year, according to a survey conducted by WHO. Statistically speaking, almost one person dies every hour with 80 per cent accidents happening on roads and mainly while people try to overtake other vehicles.

While, overtaking a sedan or a SUV can be an easier task, overtaking a truck can be a totally different scenario. Trucks are not only big in size, but they also do block the view ahead for the drivers trying to overtake them.

To overcome this problem, Samsung has launched a prototype solution in Argentina, in a bid to save lives of people who drive on one-way roads. The solution is very simple – the truck simply has a wireless camera mounted in the front, while the footage is displayed on the screen on the rear end of the truck.

The camera has a night vision mode that will enable the drivers to have a better view of the road

The rear end of the truck consists of four external monitors that allow drivers behind the over-sized truck get a complete view of the road ahead and decide if it’s safe to overtake.

The camera has a night vision mode that will enable the drivers to have a better view of the road even at night, thus ensuring the life-saving technology continues to do its job around the clock, regardless of ambient lighting.

According to Samsung, the prototype truck is no longer operational. The company is, however, moving on with the project and has stated that it has faith in this technology which has the ability to save several lives across the globe.
