Chilean footballer has been released from police custody after his arrest for crashing his Ferrari 458, allegedly while drunk

Arturo Vidal crashes Ferrari 458 under alcohol influence

Arturo Vidal, who plays as a midfielder for Juventus and the Chile national football team, was arrested on account of drunk driving. As the national team competed in Copa America, Vidal had a day off and was on his way back home from a casino, when his Ferrari 458 met with an accident.

The accident happened on the outskirts of the Chilean city of Santiago, and according to reports, Vidal's Ferrari 458 crashed into another vehicle on the motorway before veering off-road. Following the crash, police arrived on the scene and administered breath analyser tests to both the drivers. According to reports, the Champions League finalist recorded 1.2g of alcohol per litre of blood when tested by police. In Chile such a high level of blood alcohol is deemed a 'state of drunkenness' rather than just 'under the influence'.

Vidal and his wife Maria Teresa Matus, who was alongside him in the car, were then taken to the hospital where they were treated for their minor injuries. The player later left with the police for questioning.

Reports suggest, the impact of the collision was such that the Ferrari 458 incurred an extensive damage to the front-left, its wheel went missing, while the airbags appeared to be deployed.

The 28-year-old Juventus star’s driving licence has been suspended temporarily; however he will be allowed to play for the team. As part of his punishment, Vidal will have to report to the Chilean consulate in Milan on a monthly basis when he returns to his Italian club.
