Apple hires ex-Fiat Chrysler Executive, stirs electric car rumours

Apple has reportedly roped in Doug Betts, an auto manufacturing executive from Fiat Chrysler. This news has created a stir in the automotive industry fueling the news that the technology giant could potentially get into the auto industry with its own electric car.

Although, the company has remained tight-lipped on whether it will foray in the auto sector, the recruitment of Bett who is an expert in auto manufacturing has stoked the speculation in the auto industry.

Reports suggest, Betts has spent almost 30 years in the auto industry, working at companies including Michelin, Toyota, and Fiat Chrysler most recently. His move to Apple Inc has been confirmed due to his updated profile on a professional networking website.

This isn't the first time Apple has been involved in rumours of making its own car. According to earlier reports, Apple had hired hundreds of employees to work on a secret project called ‘Titan’, with the goal of creating an electric car under Apple's brand.

If these reports turn out to be true than Apple would be joining a number of Silicon Valley tech companies, mainly Google, in the car manufacturing space. Google released a prototype of its own self-driving cars last year.
