The new Mahindra Pik Up for Australia is based on the Scorpio platform and now features the re-worked front end that the Indian Scorpio MHawk possesses. The butch styling of the front end include the more squarish grille flanked by rectangular protruding headlights and a revised front bumper. The round look has been done away with, and what you get is a square, bold looking front that will still get people to move out of your way once they see you approaching in their rear view mirror.
The interiors of the Pik Up have also been spruced up. The new gen Pik Up now boasts of seats that have been designed after a study on body pressure mapping in order to make them as comfortable as possible, the vehicle also sports longer seatbelts, a dual tone look interior, electronically powered ORVMs, an up market stereo system and a sporty looking hand brake and gear lever. Mahindra has also included a number of additional safety features.
Having been present in the Australian market for over two years now, this is first major upgrade on the Mahindra Pik-Up. The new generation model will be available as a single, dual cab, or cab chassis and have either 4x4 or 4x2, depending on customer choice. The load bed dimensions remain largely the same as the outgoing model where the single cab boasted of a 1.725m3 and 1.125m3 for the dual cab. The engine also remains the same 2.5 litre CRDe unit that generates a healthy 106 bhp @ 3800 rpm and makes a generous 24.7Nm of torque between 1800-2200 rpm. Mated to a five speed manual transmission, the Mahindra Pik Up promises to be a great work horse and will be available at dealerships by August this year.
