Another American car which graced the lawns of the Jaipur Polo Grounds in Delhi was this bright lemon yellow Buick model 46-C sporting a very popular bodystyle of its era. Owned by Mrinal Zaveri, this 1938 example has rumble-seat coachwork by Fisher and is powered by a 4064cc straight engine driving the rear wheels via a three-speed manual gearbox. Few are aware that this car had 100bhp on call and thankfully came with four wheel hydraulic brakes.

This car looks elegant and with its twin side-mounted spare tyres is resplendent of an era of affordable Yankee iron. No wonder then that in 1938 Buick sold over 170,000 units of its straight-engined models which included the type owned by Mrinal.
