Honda launches Dream Yuga: Updated

Third largest bike-maker in the country, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Ltd. (HMSI) has forayed into the volume segment with its all new Dream Yuga 110cc motorcycle, available at a starting price of Rs 44,642 (ex-showroom, Delhi) and Rs 48,028 (ex-showroom, Mumbai)

Japanese two-wheeler giant, Honda has finally entered the mass commuter segment in the country with its latest offering, the all-new 110cc Dream Yuga motorcycle. Priced at Rs. 44,642 for the base variant, the Honda Dream Yuga brings low-cost commuting to the Indian masses with extremely high reliability and low cost of ownership. The bike is expected to hit the Honda showrooms by first week of June and it will target the entry-level buyer as a competitively priced feature-rich offering from the Honda stables. 

Update (19/06/2012): Honda today launched the Dream Yuga in Mumbai at Rs 48,028 (ex-showroom).

The Honda Dream Yuga is powered by a 109cc single cylinder air-cooled engine that pumps out 8.5PS of power at 7,500rpm and 8.91Nm of torque at 5,500rpm. Fed by a carburetor, the Dream Yuga gets a 4-speed transmission and weighs a total of just 108kg. Company claims that the Dream Yuga can return a fuel efficiency of 72kmpl and couple that to the fuel tank capacity of 8 litres, the motorcycle can travel over 550km on a single tank.

The Dream Yuga offers some interesting features in its class like five-spoke alloy wheels shod with tubeless tyres, a bikini front fairing, 5-way adjustable rear suspension and a long cushy saddle for added comfort. Adorned with elegant graphics, the Dream Yuga does look all set to strike a chord amongst the commuter base in the country with its sophisticated and neatly finished exterior makeup.

Available in three variants, the Dream Yuga starts with the base model at Rs. 44,642*, the middle variant for Rs. 46,134* and Rs. 48,125* for the top-end variant. The company also announced that it will rope in Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar as the brand ambassador for the company. 

Speaking at the launch, HMSI's President and CEO Keita Muramatsu said, "Honda retained the brand Dream as part of a global strategy that was first launched in 1949. This new bike is very economical with better mileage."

On the ocassion of the launch of the new motorcycle, HMSI also unveiled the new three-pronged strategic direction that it plans to undertake in order to take the leadership position in the Indian two-wheeler space. Explaning the company's new slogan, "Sach kar denge sapne" and a new brand ambassador - Akshay Kumar, Honda commences its aggressive marketing strategy as it enters into the volume segment with the new Dream Yuga motorcycle.

The new motorcycle from Honda will be manufactured at the company’s Manesar facility, which has almost reached its peak production capacity of 16 lakh units per annum. The second Honda plant located at Tapukara in Rajasthan has a total capacity of 12 lakh units while the third plant from Honda is already under construction at Nasrapuram in Karnataka. Honda plans to achieve a total production capacity of 40 lakh units across its three plants. With the company’s entry into the volume segment, Honda is determined to challenge the might of the two big players in the market, Hero Moto Corp and Bajaj Auto.
