BMW is all set to mark the 30th anniversary of its universally aspired model – the M5. The German car maker had earlier hinted that it had a ‘surprise’ in store for fans to honour the occasion. And while there has been a lot of mystery surrounding it with some believing that it might just be a rebadged version of the current model, it wasn’t really so.
The 30th anniversary of the M5 will be celebrated with a reworked variant that has been officially christened “30 Jahre M5". Needless to say that the styling gets an update with BMW Individual Frozen Dark Silver Metallic exterior paint, special 20-inch wheels, dark chrome trim and of course the 30th Anniversary badges. The interiors too flaunt celebratory badges aside from a mix of Merino leather and Alcantara upholstery that is highlighted with dark aluminium trims.
But the biggest surprise is its engine, which although packs the same 4.4-litre V8 engine with two twin scroll turbochargers, now produces 600PS of power and an insane 700Nm of torque. The limited edition model produces 32PS over the standard model and 25PS more than the Competition Package. Torque has also been increased to 700Nm from 680Nm in the Competition Package.
The result? The 30th Anniversary edition will be the fastest production M5 ever. All the increase in power and torque rating means that it can now do the 0-100kmph dash in just 3.9seconds which is 0.4 seconds better than the M5 Competition package (Also Read: 2014 BMW M5: Review). The M5 30 Jahre borrows the chassis, firmer springs and dampers from the Competition Package.
The current M5 is priced at Rs 1.30 crore in India; expect the anniversary edition to demand a premium over it given its exclusivity. Limited to just 300 units, the 30 Jahre M5 is BMW’s way of applauding the success the model has achieved over the years. Tweaks in the right places not only give it a unique identity but also the honour of being the fastest M5 ever!
