Volkswagen rolls out its 200,000th Vento

Will begin the export of the Left Hand Drive Volkswagen Vento from the second half of 2012
It’s that time of the year when the numbers are once again doing the talking and for international manufacturers brewing here in India and more importantly looking to establish strong long-term ties, the time to act is now.
Following in the footsteps of its Japanese and Korean competitors, Volkswagen is also steadily growing the scale of its assembly operations on Indian soil and seriously looking at making it one of its many strategic export hubs in the years to come.
A cause for celebration and a number to mark the start of their export confederation from India is the roll out of the 200,000th unit of its best selling Volkswagen Vento model. As the first Left Hand Drive car to be ever produced at the Chakan plant, this version of the Vento model will be exported to the Middle East and African Countries. The export is planned to start from the second half of 2012.
The 200,000th unit was rolled out in the presence of Dr. Hackenberg and Dr. Chacko, who were present at the final quality check point of the plant.
Commenting on Volkswagen’s decision to begin exporting the Vento, Dr. Hackenberg said “The Vento is an Indian car designed and built for Indian customers. The success of the Vento in a competitive market like India makes us confident that this product would be well accepted in other markets with similar needs. We are confident of repeating this success of our Vento in new export markets.”
Describing the long-term growth strategy of the Volkswagen Group India Dr. John Chacko added, “Our focus is clear on the Indian market; however export is one tool to face volatilities in the automotive market and currency.”
The Volkswagen plant in Chakan currently produces the Volkswagen Polo, the Volkswagen Vento (Volkswagen Vento vs Honda City Review), the Skoda Fabia and the Skoda Rapid.

People who value quality buy the VW vento. The German build and the feeling of safety that you get in side this car is not present in either the city or the verna. I agree, Verna is more feature packed with latest gadetary but the dirveability and the build qyality of Vento is uncomparable.

completely agree. I test drove Verna fluidic with 1.6 diesel engine last year, Vento feels much more responsive and more powerful despite having smaller engine. I have driven vento at 175-180 kph and the car is so stable even at that speed....

I've driven all 3 cars worth considering in this segment, I.e. the VW Vento, the Honda City and the Hyundai Verna. I'm no fan of Hyundai (especially their brand ambassador SRK) but the Verna is so feature packed, that you feel ou are driving a superior and technologically advanced car in a higher segment. I really wonder who would buy the VW which has an ordinary dash, hardly and features and even looks that are inferior to the Honda and Hyundai. Perhaps the VW badge has helped cross 200000 units

I agree that Verna does have more features, no doubt. But it feels flashy not classy. Also I did not find Verna's engine outstanding at all, cannot be compared to TDI engines! For example, in US, diesel cars hardly sell...except TDIs ( and may be some BMWs).
