Getting the drivers ready for the 2016 Vento Cup Volkswagen Motorsports India has completed the fitness camp and pre-season test before the start of the season. The 2016 Vento Cup marks the third year of the long partnership of the German manufacturer with MMSC and MRF. The one-make series from Volkswagen Motorsport India is now a part of the MMSC FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship where racers compete in different categories. The 2016 season of the Vento Cup will be held on the 18th and 19th of this month. The first round of the championship will be conducted at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore.
Prior to the opening of the new season, a Fitness Camp was conducted for the 2016 Vento Cup drivers at Bangalore. The main purpose of the camp was to test the endurance, physical and psychological fitness of the drivers before they strap themselves in the race machines. The camp was organised by British Nutrition who have been the organisers for the previous two seasons. Drivers were also educated on the diet and exercise routine that need to be followed throughout the season.
Speaking on the Fitness Camp, Sirish Vissa, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport India, said: “At Volkswagen Motorsport India, we have always taken a holistic approach to our programme and the driver development we do. Once again, thanks to our Fitness partner – British Nutrition, Bharath Reddy and his team, the fitness camp organised before the beginning of the season was quite a success. The drivers are now well aware of where they are in terms of their individual fitness levels and the areas for improvement. Now we look forward to the season opener of the championship this weekend in Coimbatore.”
After completion of the fitness camp the drivers had their first testing in the new Vento race cars at the Kari Motor Speedway. Initial tests of the 2-day camp had the drivers driving the road-spec Polo cars which were upgraded with roll cages followed by the Polo cars that were equipped with additional race suspension and tyres.
