Tata Motors announced the second season of the T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship. The 2015 edition of the Tata T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship will be held from March 14th to 15th at the Buddh International Circuit in Noida. The truck racing series is affiliated by FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile) and FMSCI (the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India). Six teams have confirmed their participation for the 2015 edition of the race and each team will feature 2 race-prepared Tata T1 Prima trucks. All the competing drivers will be foreign nationals, though Tata Motors announced that next year we could see a bunch of Indian drivers on the starting grid.
The participants will drive the Tata Prima 4038.S to compete in the T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship, with a power output of 370PS at 2,100rpm and an increased top speed of 130kmph over last years’ 110kmph. To make these trucks fit for racing; modifications were made to meet safety and performance parameters as per the British Truck Racing Association guidelines. The trucks have undergone testing at BIC and Tata Motors Jamshedpur’s testing facility. The sponsors for the event include Cummins, WABCO, JK Tyres, Castrol and Tata Technologies while Setco Automotive is one of the sponsors for Team Allied Partners.
It was Stuart Oliver who won the 2014 T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship. The debut season of the Championship at the BIC, witnessed an audience of over 20,000 which Tata Motors expects to increase this year. Team Castrol Vecton won the team challenge and was followed by Team Cummins and Team Tata Technologies Motor Sports in the final Team points’ standings.
Speaking at the announcement, Ravi Pisharody, Executive Director, Commercial Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “With the first edition of the T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship having produced some very exciting races, we are pleased to announce the next season in 2015. As we enter season two, it is in our continuous endeavour to remain the most preferred trucking brand and I wish to thank our sponsors, team of engineers, consultants, organisers, volunteers and, certainly, spectators for creating a big sporting holiday with an unforgettable atmosphere.”
