Royal Enfield unveiled limited editions of the Classic 500 at the inauguration of a new flagship apparel and accessories store at Delhi’s premium Khan Market shopping area

RE President Rudratej Singh and Eicher Motors MD Siddhartha Lal

Royal Enfield has introduced its new gear collection inspired by Despatch Riders of the World Wars at its new flagship gear store in Delhi’s Khan Market.

The new collection pays homage to despatch riders of the World Wars who relayed vital information between headquarters and ground forces, often riding long days and nights through varying weather and terrain. Royal Enfields were one of the most popular motorcycles for this task due to their durability and ruggedness.

“Our new collection celebrates Royal Enfield’s history with the World Wars and in particular our association with the armed forces. It revives the intrepid spirit of the battlefield and exemplifies Enfield hallmarks: craftsmanship, durability and detail. The collection includes a full range of urban protection gear such as moto-pants that have articulation on the knee, leather jackets with reinforced elbow patches, textile jackets equipped with armoured pockets and shoes with ankle guards and toe shifters. This is a heritage collection that will keep evolving over time,” said Rudratej Singh, President, Royal Enfield.

Royal Enfield apparel and Limited Edition Classic 50

In addition to apparel and accessories, the collection also includes a limited edition range of Despatch motorcycles in three shades – Squadron Blue Despatch, Desert Storm Despatch and Battle Green Despatch.

In India, only two shades will be available – Squadron Blue Despatch and Desert Storm Despatch. Only 200 motorcycles will be produced in each colour and customers can book their motorcycles online starting July 15.

“Each Royal Enfield Despatch motorcycle has been handcrafted using a unique film transfer technique that uses a delicate and precise hands-on process to transfer the camouflage pattern on the motorcycle’s skin. Each body panel of each motorcycle requires specialized and dedicated personnel skills. When these panels are assembled on a single motorcycle, the result is a signature camouflage pattern for each individual machine. Hence, no two motorcycles have the exact same design – making your motorcycle the only one of its kind to ever roll out of the factory,” said Siddhartha Lal, MD and CEO, Eicher Motors Ltd.

The limited edition Classic 500 however, will have no mechanical upgrades and will continue to be powered by the same 499cc single-cylinder, four-stroke engine making 27.6PS of power at 5250rpm and 41.3Nm of peak torque at 4000rpm.

Prices of the limited edition Classic 500 will be announced at a later date, once online bookings begin on the Royal Enfield website, Lal added.

Royal Enfield will continue to focus on the middleweight segment, ranging from 250-750cc motorcycles, focusing on the core ‘timeless classic’ design philosophy of the brand. Developments on new products are contiguously taking place at Royal Enfield’s tech centers – in India and the one in UK.
