Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover and Chrysler are the most likely to suffer damage from potholes and bad roads. More than 10% of their cars suffer damages from road irregularities. These are the findings of a recent United Kingdom-based survey of roads in the country. According to the survey, Honda’s cars are the most pothole-resilient. Apparently, cars from the Japanese car giant help save their owners a significant amount of money in repairs each year.
The survey further points out that after Honda the most pothole-proof cars sold in the UK are from Toyota and Hyundai. Less than 2% of their vehicles are reported to suffer axle and suspension damage caused by potholes and other road defects.
If you thought Indian roads, with its potholes and undulations, are a pain to drive on, the United Kingdom has it no better. In fact, motorists there end up incurring huge bills on repairing their cars for suspension damage caused by potholed roads.
While the average payout for pothole-induced suspension damage is currently at ₤309 (Rs. 25,256), Warranty Direct and Potholes.co.uk have identified recent claims to be as high as ₤2,402 (Rs. 1,96,326).
According to reports, this winter, UK’s roads could end up being in their worst condition in a generation. A warranty provider in the UK called Warranty Direct analysed tens of thousands of policies to reveal the most and least susceptible cars to the pothole.
Duncan McClure Fisher of Warranty Direct, said, “With last year’s road damage barely dealt with, a repeat of those harsh winter weather conditions could see our highways deteriorate to the worst state they’ve been in for a generation. Particularly surprising is that high-end manufacturers are just as vulnerable, if not more so, than ‘value’ manufacturers. However, we wouldn’t lambast those at the bottom of the pile because the roads are just so bad.”
