Mercedes-Benz will launch yet another brand new model and a brand new nameplate at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. The new car, rumoured to be called the Mercedes-Benz MLC-Class, will be based on the ML but will have a coupe body so as to combat the popular BMW X6. The MLC will most likely get the mechanical components and interior from the soon to be launched ML-Class facelift but will feature much sportier handling to compliment its exterior.

The Mercedes-Benz MLC will most likely be ready for an official launch sometime next year and will be made in Mercedes-Benz’s Tuscaloosa factory in Alabama, North America. Mercedes-Benz promises the MLC to be a much more sporty SUV targeted at a younger audience as compared to the ML-Class. The design for example is very agressive and uses a highly raked windscreen and a sloping coupe like roofline to accentuate the sportiness. The large SLS like grille and the pulled back headlights like that found on the new S-Class follow the Mercedes-Benz design philosophy to a T while adding a sense of sportiness and luxury.

The Mercedes-Benz MLC in its production version will look very similar to the concept seen here judging with recent trends seen with the likes of the GLA and the S-Class coupe. The Mercedes-Benz MLC will feature a range of petrol, diesel and hybrid power plants. There will also be a performance-oriented version of the MLC, the MLC63 AMG which will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine. The MLC will be mated with Mercedes’ 7-speed dual clutch gearbox and will come standard with all-wheel-drive for all models.
