Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé unveiled

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the coupé version of the GLC compact SUV at the ongoing New York International Motor Show. The GLC Coupé is derived from the GLC compact SUV but borrows the sloping roofline design from the larger GLE coupé.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé which measures 4.73 meters in length is longer than the normal GLC by only eight centimetres. The Coupé is also four centimetres lower than the GLC compact SUV. These dimensions give the GLC Coupé a dynamic and compact appearance. The car sports the steeply racked diamond radiator grille with three-point star at the centre which is flanked by optional LED headlamps. The front has a short overhang which highlights the stance of the SUV. The main difference between the GLC and the Coupé can be noted in the profile of the vehicles. Mercedes-Benz seems to have achieved a perfect line to captures the ideology of a coupé without deviating from the SUV genes. Inside, the GLC Coupé will share similar interiors borrowed from the C-Class as seen in the GLC model. The rear will have 60:40 split/folding seats.

Out of the different engine options that will be available internationally, the new Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé will be offered with a four-cylinder 2-litre petrol and a 2.1-litre diesel engine for the entry-level variants. For the European market the petrol engine is tuned to produce 210PS of power while the diesel variant will belt out 212PS of max power. Expect the versions coming to India to be equipped with the same engines but in a different state of tune. Both the engines will be mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.

Internationally, the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé will be seen rivalling the likes of the BMW X4, Porsche Macan and the upcoming Jaguar F-Pace.
