Maruti Suzuki SUPRA SAEINDIA 2015 finals to take place this month

The Society of Automotive Engineers India (SAEINDIA) will conduct the finale of the 2015 SUPRA SAEINDIA competition in Chennai between July 15-19. Over 2200 engineering students will compete at the competition to design a Formula prototype car at the Chennai Motor Race Track

The Society of Automotive Engineers India (SAEINDIA) will conduct the finale of the 2015 SUPRA SAEINDIA competition in Chennai between July 15-19. Title sponsor Maruti Suzuki continues to encourage budding engineering talent in the field of automobiles this year too. SUPRA is a platform that encourages engineering students to design, conceptualise, build and run a Formula Prototype race car to exhibit their skills in front of industry experts. The winning team of the competition also walks home with a sizeable cash prize of Rs 2 lakh while there is an extensive list of smaller awards created to encourage participants excelling at one particular skill over the other.

Mr. R S Kalsi, Executive Director - Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. said, “Maruti Suzuki has always been focusing on strengthening it’s connect with the youth of India. The competition began with 167 teams and about 2,200 engineering students participating at the conceptualisation level. The shortlist of the top 110 teams have successfully made it to the finals that will be held at the Madras Motor Race Track between July 15-19. The Winning team gets a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, the 1st runner up walks away with Rs 1 lakh and the 2nd runner up team wins Rs 50,000.

Explaining the process, Sirish Vissa, Technical Committee Chair, SUPRA SAEINDIA 2015 & Head - Volkswagen Motorsport India, shared “In this process, students learn to develop a design, understand the process of new product development, industrial procurement, manufacturing, assembly and prototyping. The selected prototypes are then tested in standard test conditions to measure parameters like maneuverability, technological innovation, endurance, fuel economy, performance and stability.”
