After a long wait, Maruti Suzuki will officially take the wraps off the S-Cross at the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA), to be held in Malaysia on June 7.Maruti is planning to enter the burgeoning compact-SUV and crossover segment of India with the new Maruti S-Cross.

Even before the launch and official unveil, the car has been involved in a lot of speculation surrounding its name. In fact, some portals even speculated that Suzuki will have to ditch its international nomenclature and call it Across. While the official launch of the S-Cross is still a few months away, with the unveil at IIFA, all speculations about the crossover SUVs name will be put to an end.

The IIFA Awards has been a popular name in the Bollywood business for the past 15 years and have been known to reward excellence in cinematic achievements for Bollywood. With the kind of viewership these film awards have, they set the right platform for manufacturers to unveil their upcoming products. In fact, Renault too had taken this approach when they showcased its MPV Lodgy to the public at the Star Guild Awards in February earlier this year.

When it will be launched, the S-Cross will be offered in both petrol as well as diesel engine options. The gasoline unit will be the same 1.4-litre mill that we have already seen on the Ertiga. It will also be offered with a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder diesel mill that will come mated to a 6-speed transmission.

Recently, an undisguised test mule of the S-Cross has been spotted with steel wheels and roof carrier. Going by the looks of it, Maruti Suzuki is likely to launch the base variant of the S-Cross at an affordable price by keeping features on offer to the minimum.

When it is launched the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross will go against the likes of the Hyundai i20 Active, Toyota Etios Cross and the Fiat Avventura. The S-Cross is expected to be priced at around Rs 6-9 lakh.
