President of India, Pranab Mukherjee recently celebrated his 79th birthday, and to mark this occasion Hero Cycles gifted 50 customised cycles to his staff. These cycles will be used by the staff at the Rashtrapati Bhavan for a healthier and environment-friendly commute within the 320-acre President Estate. Mukherjee flagged off the ‘Go Green’ initiative along with Pankaj Munjal, Co-Chairman and Managing Director of Hero Cycles in a formal ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Commenting on the occasion, Munjal, said, “We at Hero Cycles wanted to take this opportunity to give our best wishes to President on his birthday. We wanted to wish him a long, healthy life."
While speaking at the event, Munjal stated that close to 40 crore people in India who are below the poverty line do not have the financial capability to purchase bicycles. He mentioned that these 40 crore people look towards bicycles as a big enabler which can help them earn and increase their livelihood.
According to Munjal, people living in rural India should be provided with financial assistance so as to enable them to purchase bicycles to make their commute easy. By doing this, these rural people will be empowered and will have better opportunities to enhance their livelihood. To achieve this goal, Munjal showed his willingness to partner with various financial institutions present at the event.
During the event, Munjal has also announced scholarships for the students of Rajendra Prasad Sarvodya Vidyalaya - the school located within President Estate. These scholarships will be awarded to the academic toppers of classes 6th to 11th.
